Sika® Stabilizer-1118 TBM

Foaming agent for soft ground, granular soils in TBM applications

Sika® Stabilizer-1118 TBM is a foaming agent used for soil conditioning in shielded TBMs. It is used in EPB TBMs to modify the mechanical and physical properties of the excavated soil, particularly in grounds with medium to high permeability.

  • Particularly effective for soil conditioning in granular soils with high fines contents (< 0.063 mm)
  • Creates plastic deformation properties in the soil, which increases face stability

Usage

    Sika® Stabilizer-1118 TBM is used to create a highly stable foam to hold the face pressure and maintain the rheology of the excavated ground longer than conventional foaming agents. Sika® Stabilizer-1118 TBM is used for:
    • Soft ground, granular soils with medium to high groundwater pressure

    Recommended dosage

    The Product is used as an aqueous solution with a typical concentration of 1–3 %, depending on soils fines content and groundwater pressure.

    Application steps

    APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

    The Product must be used with standard TBM foaming injection systems.

    APPLICATION

    1. Conduct preliminary trials in the laboratory to determine foam injection parameters, such as Concentration (Cf), FER and FIR.
    2. The Product is used with the standard foam generators installed in all EPB machines. Inject it at the front of the cutterhead, into the excavation chamber or into the screw conveyor.
    3. Analyse the TBM data regularly to monitor Product performance and adapt the dosing parameters if needed.
