Sika is acquiring Australian company Radmix Resources Pty Ltd and its manufacturing partner ASF (Australian Synthetic Fibres) Pty Ltd. Radmix is the leading supplier of structural fibres for shotcrete in Australia’s mining industry. Last year Radmix and ASF generated sales of CHF 8 million.
FOCUS ON CONCRETE REINFORCEMENT
The acquisition of Radmix and ASF will allow Sika to expand its strong position in the mining sector. The structural fibres manufactured by Radmix are used for concrete reinforcement, in particular shotcrete.
For Sika the mining industry represents a growing market that uses a large number of high-value Sika products, from shotcrete, specialty mortars, waterproofing systems and high-resistant coatings to liquid membranes. The technological know-how brought in by Radmix plus Sika’s comprehensive range offers major potential for the development of new products and the expansion of an already substantial offering for the mining industry.
Sika will integrate Radmix and ASF into the Sika Australia business. Radmix founder and present CEO Ray Desmond will help to ensure a smooth transition into the new organisation and assist in further promoting the development of structural fibres.
Ray Desmond: “The acquisition of Radmix and ASF by Sika gives our company new opportunities. Our staff look forward to the synergies that will come with Sika and to being a part of the Sika team.”
Regional Manager Asia/Pacific Heinz Gisel: “The acquisition of Radmix and ASF is an opportunity to strengthen our leading position in the concrete and shotcrete market in Australia, to have our own fibre production in the Asia/Pacific region, and to become the number one supplier of synthetic fibres in the region’s mining industry.”
