Key Facts and Figures

G20 members account for 75% of global greenhouse emissions. More than 70 countries, including China, US, and EU, have set a net-zero target, covering about 76% of the global emissions.1

Net-zero buildings are designed to generate their annual energy from renewable sources. All countries are targeted for zero-carbon codes for new buildings by 2030. Just 5% of new buildings were zero-carbon-ready in 2020.2

In 2022, the EU proposed the eco-design regulation and adopted the Chemical Strategy for Sustainability, so that products use more recycled content and fewer harmful substances, while making them more durable, reusable and recyclable.

In 2023, the EU CSRD regulation came into force extending the scope of non-financial reporting and requiring such disclosure for listed companies.
