Consumption
Consumption and coverage depends on the surface profile and roughness of the substrate, size and reverse profile of the tiles and the placing technique (simple placing "floating" or back to back “buttering-floating”).
As a guide for simple placing technique:
Required notch size: | Quantity of mixed material: | Theoretical coverage per 5 kg set: |
4 mm | ~1.8 kg/m2 | ~2.7 m2 |
6 mm | ~2.3 kg/m2 | ~2.1 m2 |
8 mm | ~3.0 kg/m2 | ~1.6 m2 |
10 mm | ~4.2 kg/m2 | ~1.1 m2 |
Solid bed application | ~1.6 kg/m2/mm thickness | ~3.1 m2 at 1 mm thickness ~1.5 m2 at 2 mm thickness |
Note: All figures are theoretical and do not allow for any additional material due to surface porosity, surface profile, variations in level, wastage or any other variations. Apply product to a test area to calculate the exact consumption for the specific substrate conditions and proposed application equipment.
SUBSTRATE PREPARATION
- The substrate must be clean and dry. Dirt, grease, oil, wax, old coatings, floor cleansing agents, gypsum-based patching compounds etc. must be completely removed.
- The subsurface must comply with the relevant standards, comply with information sheets and guidelines (suitable age and residual moisture).
- Steel and other metal substratesmust be degreased (e.g. with Xylene / MEK / Acetone solvent), derust and treated with rust protection (e.g. SikaCor® EG-1 Plus).
- Old, waterproof adhesives must be removed mechanically.
- Dewax old PVC coverings and thoroughly clean them (if necessary grind).
- Mechanically roughen old polyester and GRP surfaces and clean with suitable thinner (e.g. Xylene / MEK / Acetone solvent).
- Old, fixed ceramic coverings must be detaly cleaned (black pad).
- Absorbent cement or calcium sulfate-bound substances should be primed with suitable primer. Contact Sika's technical service advisor.
MIXING
Add hardener component to base component and thoroughly mix until a homogeneous, streak-free material mix is acheived, using a mechanical mixer attached to an electric drill (~300 rpm). Avoid overmixing. Transfer material to another clean mixing container and re-mix. Mix full units only, do not split the kit. Do not mix more material than can be applied within it's pot life.
APPLICATION
- Spread small portions of mixed SikaCeram®-750 onto the substrate to be tiled to allow the reaction heat to dissipate.
- Apply a thin scratch coat using the straight edge of the trowel.
- Using the notched edge of the trowel, comb as much SikaCeram®-750 onto the scratch coat as can be covered with ceramic tiles within it's pot life.
- Place tiles and adjust to correct position. Heavy vitrified tiles and/or large format tiles should be wedged if necessary.
- Before tiling on moisture-sensitive substrates, apply a layer of SikaCeram®-750 directly onto the substrate to produce a water-impermeable layer. The layer must be at least 1.5 mm thick and pore free. Seal pipe culverts, corner joints and floor/wall junctions with appropriate type of SikaCeram® WP Tape. Use SikaCeram®-750 to fix SikaCeram® WP Tape.
- Large-size vitrified tiles, not subject to mechanical loads, can be laid by applying dots or stripes to the reverse side of the tiles. When applying the dot and dab method, put palm-sized dots at the corners and in the center of the tiles and spread the adhesive to a uniform thickness using the notched edge of the trowel. The joints must stay free from adhesive. Press tiles into the substrate, adjust them to correct position with a twist and slide motion using battens.
- In case of lath construction and completely level substrates, apply stripes of SikaCeram®-750, approx. 10 cm wide, to the lath work and/or reverse of the tile and spread to a uniform thickness using the notched edge of the trowel.
CLEANING OF EQUIPMENT
Clean all tools and application equipment using a suitable thinner (Xylene / MEK / Acetone), immediately after use. Hardened / cured material can only be removed mechanically.
