Foaming agent for soft grounds in Tunnel Boring Machines (TBM) applications

Sika® Stabilizer-1113 TBM CC is a foaming agent used for soil conditioning in shielded TBMs.

  • Particularly effective for soil conditioning in granular soils with high fines contents (i.e. < 0.063 mm)
  • Creates plastic deformation properties in the soil, which provides increases face stability.
  • Reduces inner friction and abrasiveness of the soil at the cutterhead and shield.

Usage

Sika® Stabilizer-1113 TBM CC is used to create a highly stable foam to hold the face pressure and maintain the rheology of the excavated ground.
Sika® Stabilizer-1113 TBM CC is used for:
Soft ground with medium to low groundwater pressure

Sika® Stabilizer-1113 TBM CC is used as an aqueous solution with a typical concentration of 1–3 %, depending on soils fines content and groundwater pressure.

Application steps

APPLICATION


Sika® Stabilizer-1113 TBM CC can be used with the standard foam generators installed in all EPB machines. It can be injected at the cutting wheel to the front, into the TBM working chamber and in the screw conveyor.

  1. Conduct preliminary trials in the laboratory to determine foam injection parameters, such as Concentration (Cf), FER and FIR.
  2. Sika® Stabilizer-1113 TBM CC is used with the standard foam generators installed in all EPB machines. Inject it at the front of the cutterhead, into the excavation chamber or into the screw conveyor.
  3. Analyse the TBM data regularly to monitor Product performance.
