Water repellent and efflorescence control admixture for manufactured concrete products

SikaPaver® WP 240 is a multi-purpose admixture that can be used in a variety of water-repellent and efflorescence control applications.
With its flexible dosage range, SikaPaver® WP 240 admixture enables increased production rates of visually appealing manufactured concrete products and precast concrete products that have improved water repellency and secondary efflorescence control properties, increased strength performance and improved color vibrancy.
Suitable for use in hot and tropical climatic conditions.

Store in undamaged, unopened, original sealed packaging in dry conditions at temperatures between +5°C and +50°C. Protect from direct sunlight.

Application Information

Compatibility

To further improve the color efficiency and strength performance, the addition of a SikaPaver® high performance plasticizing admixture is recommended.

Consumption

Recommended dosage

0.25 – 1.0 litres per 100 kg cement. However, the optimum dosage to meet project requirements must be determined through trial mixes.

  • Water Repellency: Typically, 0.5 – 1.0 litres per 100 kg cement. Optimum water repellency dosage rates are determined through mix evaluation and testing procedures.
  • Efflorescence Control: Typically, 0.25 – 0.5 litres per 100 kg cement
Application steps

SUBSTRATE PREPARATION

The surface to be treated should be free of dust, oil, efflorescence and existing paint coatings. Cracks in concrete of more than 200 μm must be repaired prior to application of the hydrophobic treatment.
Cleaning is best achieved by brushing with suitable detergents or by light blast cleaning or steam cleaning, etc. Best results are obtained on dry, very absorbent substrates. The substrate must look dry with no damp patches.

MIXING

SikaPaver® WP 240 is supplied ready for use and should not be thinned.

APPLICATION

SikaPaver® WP 240 is applied by using low pressure spray, brush or roller, working from bottom up, taking care not to let the product run. On horizontal application, avoid ponding on the surface. Test a small area of the concrete surface before starting general application to assure desired results and coverage rates.

CLEANING OF EQUIPMENT

Clean all tools and application equipment with water immediately after use.
