SikaRep® SA

ONE-COMPONENT, POLYMER-MODIFIED, PATCHING AND VOID-FILLING MORTAR

SikaRep® SA is a single-component, polymer-modified, dual-purpose repair mortar based on Portland cement, well-graded sands, and specially selected additives to enhance fresh and hardened properties. Suitable for use in hot and tropical climates.

Usage

Depending on the mixing water dosage, SikaRep® SA can be used as a:
  • Trowel-applied mortar for pore sealing, blowhole filling, and thin section repair of minor defects on concrete surfaces.
  • Joint and gap filling mortar, including precast installations, when mixed to a semi-fluid (plastic) consistency.

Application steps

MIXING

Add the required quantity of clean water into a clean mixing vessel to achieve the desired consistency, then slowly add the SikaRep® SA powder. The material should preferably be mixed using a forced-action mixer for 2 to 3 minutes, or until a homogeneous, lump-free consistency is achieved.

 

Do not mix for longer than 5 minutes. A slow-speed drill (≤500 rpm) may also be used, taking care not to introduce excess air during mixing. Do not exceed recommended water dosage or add any other material.

APPLICATION

Trowellable Repair mortar
 

Place SikaRep® SA onto the prepared SSD substrate, or onto the surface while the bonding agent remains tacky. The mortar shall be placed using a spatula or trowel, ensuring adequate compaction and full contact with the substrate.

Where application thicknesses exceed 30 mm, the material shall be placed in successive layers. Each layer shall be allowed to stiffen and be cross-hatched or suitably roughened before placement of the next layer to ensure proper bonding between lifts. Light pre-wetting is recommended before placing subsequent layers.

In cases where the number of layers exceeds two lifts, contact the Sika Technical Office for further guidance.

Once the mortar has started to set, the surface can be levelled or finished using a wooden or synthetic float. Where a fine surface finish is required, SikaRep® Fine SA or SikaEmaco® N 301 may be used as a finishing layer.
 

Void-Filling mortar
 

Apply SikaRep® SA to the prepared SSD substrate, or onto the surface while the bonding agent remains tacky. Place the mortar by pouring method, using spatula or trowel where necessary. Consider using light rodding or gentle compaction to eliminate air pockets and ensure full contact with the substrate. 

Once the mortar has started to set, the surface can be levelled or finished using a wooden or synthetic float. 

CURING TREATMENT

Where ambient conditions may lead to rapid surface drying, the exposed surfaces shall be cured using light water fogging for up to 72 hours and  protected with wet hessian cloth to maintain adequate moisture retention throughout the curing period. Alternatively, the exposed surface shall be cured using curing compounds from Sika Antisol® range. Fogging or mist spraying shall not begin until final set has been reached to prevent surface damage, washout, or disruption of the mortar matrix.

 

CLEANING OF EQUIPMENT

Application and mixing tools should be cleaned with water while the material is still fresh. Hardened material can only be removed mechanically.
