SUBSTRATE PREPARATION
- All surfaces must be clean, dry and free from any loosely adhering particles.
- Check the joints edges for soundness and if found weak cut recess and fill up with suitable repair mortar.
- Correct joint depth can be established by inserting closed cell polyethylene backing rod tightly into the joint.
- When the joints have been filled with fiber filled board, this must be raked back to the required depth. Use bond breaker tape over the backer material.
- Protect surfaces with masking tape.
MIXING
- Mix and use one complete unit at a time. Do not split the units.
- Add comp. B into the comp. A pail. Mix the product thoroughly with a mixing paddle fitted to an electric hand drill, not exceeding 500 rpm, to avoid air entrapment.
- Mix for approximately 5 - 10 minutes until a smooth, even consistency is achieved.
- The sides and base of the container should be periodically scraped down to ensure all of the comp. B is completely blended with the comp. A.
- Failure to mix correctly will result in bubbles, uncured sealant and lumps.
- Once the product is mixed it should be used immediately.
APPLICATION
- SikaSeal®-490 SL must always be applied to surface primed with Sika® Primer-190 or Sika® Primer-117 MS.
- SikaSeal®-490 SL should be applied between 2 hours to 6 hours at 23⁰C of primer application.
- If joint is not sealed within recommended time, the joint must be re-primed.
- If the joint is not sealed or re-primed within 24 hours, the cured primer should be removed and joint primed again.
- The mixed SikaSeal®-490 SL maybe poured directly from the tin or can be loaded into a gun for application.
- For detailed, recommended surface preparation and installation procedures, refer to SikaSeal®-490 SL method statement.
CLEANING OF EQUIPMENT
- Application equipment should be cleaned immediately with Sika®Colma Cleaner, acetone or any suitable cleaning solvent after use.
- Hardened / cured material can only be mechanically removed
