Sika® Igolflex®-609

Non-fibrated bitumen emulsion

Sika® Igolflex®-609 is a brown-black bitumen liquid emulsion with excellent adhesion, which dries to a tough, seamless, waterproof and protective coating for concrete structures and steel elements.
Suitable for use in tropical and hot climatic conditions.

Usage

  • Protection and damp-proofing of concrete, asbestos cement sheets, roofing felts, wood.
  • Protection of steel work, pipes and metal.

Shelf life

12 months minimum from production date when stored properly in original, unopened, sealed containers.

Storage conditions

Store in undamaged, unopened, original sealed packaging in dry conditions at temperatures between +5 °C and +35 °C. Protect from direct sunlight, heat and moisture.

6–8 hours per coat at 25 °C
Consumption

Consumption

Typically, a coverage rate of 3–5 m2 / L / coat, dependent on substrate, porosity, texture and desired DFT specifications.

Minimum 2 coats required.
Site trials should be carried out to ascertain exact coverage.
Application steps

SUBSTRATE PREPARATION

  • All surfaces must be sound, even, free from dust, loose particles and any contamination.
  • Sika® Igolflex®-609 may be applied to damp but not waterlogged surfaces.
  • Hot and very dry, porous concrete surfaces must be primed by diluting Sika® Igolflex®-609 with clean water at 1:1 ratio (by weight).

MIXING

  • Sika® Igolflex®-609 must be stirred well before use.
  • Where a single drum is used for prolonged periods, occasional stirring during application is recommended.
 

APPLICATION

  • Apply evenly and in one direction using a stiff brush. A minimum two-coat application is recommended to avoid possible gaps in the film.
  • Each coat must be allowed to dry before applying the next one at right angles to the first.

CLEANING OF EQUIPMENT

Clean all equipment and tools with water immediately after use.
